James Bond Beach

James Bond Beach was another highlight of our trip. It is very calm and clear. The snorkeling clarity was great but the area is pretty dead from the pollution and runoff from the nearby rivers. I met a peace corps girl who told me they have been trying to revive it for the last two years and make it some sort of a sanctuary but it has a long way to go. There were small schools of fish but you could tell it was just beginning.

The beer was priced average, but the thing that stood out most was the curry shrimp plate and festivals that we ordered. Delicious.

How did James Bond Beach get its name? It turns out that Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond movies, moved here after falling in love with Jamaica while visiting the island for a meeting and he spent winters here. The movie included the famous scene of Ursula Andress walking on Jamaica’s famous Dunns River beach. The waterfalls are located near to the town of Ocho Rios.
